See Nothing

The figures are looking upwards with unseeing eyes.
They look at nothing. They feel nothing.

The block of wood is inconsequential as a singular object but has a purpose in that it was used to make experimental monoprints. The ink residue stains the wood dark and again this material is inconsequential. However, the dark object when juxtaposed with the figures has an ominous presence. It is a metaphorical hatch referenced in the mixed media panel hanging above.

The wood is a barrier between the searching figures and suggests confinement. The stark light in the reflective material in the top panel reveals nothing. When read together, the three pieces take the form of a struggle and hopelessness.

The figures are placed on a discarded pallet which is covered in detritus. Again this is an inconsequential material but achieves a greater meaning in conjunction with the other artefacts. It is  a Gestalt response.
